Chapter One
Discovering new ways to personalize care.
Sunnybrook researchers continued to lead some of the most impactful world-first clinical trials — turning discovery into new standards of practice. The result: more personalized, targeted and efficient care for patients, and a healthcare system that can better support them.
A new option for early cancer treatment
Sunnybrook's Odette Cancer Centre continues to advance breakthrough work that gives patients new, less-invasive treatment options. Through clinical trials run here and shared internationally, more patients can access tailored therapies that match their disease and their lives.
“This research aims to give health care professionals and patients data on the benefits so they can make informed decisions about providing preventive antibiotics as part of care.”
SuDDICU: the world's largest critical-care trial
Selective Decontamination of the Digestive tract in Intensive Care Unit patients — SuDDICU — was led by the Sunnybrook Research Institute in Canada and the U.K. Established in 2009, it remains the largest clinical trial in critical care anywhere in the world, shaping how ICU patients are protected from infection.
